SSC Uniform Services – Complete Guide

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits candidates for various uniformed services across India, primarily through the SSC GD Constable and SSC Sub-Inspector (SI) in Delhi Police & CAPF exams. This guide covers posts, qualifications, age limits, physical standards and the full selection process.

General Eligibility & Age Limits
- SSC GD Constable: 10th Pass (Matriculation). Age 18–23 years (relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/Ex-Servicemen).
- SSC SI (Delhi Police/CAPF): Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. Age 20–25 years (relaxations as per govt rules).
- Nationality: Indian citizens only.
Physical Standards – GD & SI
- Height (Men): Minimum height varies by force/category.
- Height (Women): Separate minimum height norms apply.
- Chest (Men): Minimum without expansion and required expansion.
- Weight: Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
SSC PET typically includes:
- Running (timed – different distances for men and women)
- Long Jump
- High Jump
- Additional physical tasks for specific CAPF roles
SSC Uniform Services – Selection Process
1. Online Application
Applications are submitted on the SSC official website. Candidates must upload required documents, photo, and signature in the prescribed format.
2. Computer-Based Examination (CBE)
The written exam is conducted online. It includes subjects such as General Knowledge, General Intelligence, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English/Hindi.
3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates must clear running and jumping events according to SSC norms. PET is qualifying in nature.
4. Physical Standard Test (PST)
Height, weight and chest measurements are checked. Failing PST leads to disqualification.
5. Medical Examination
Qualified candidates undergo a thorough medical exam covering vision, hearing, health parameters and overall physical fitness.
6. Document Verification
All educational, identity, caste and other documents are verified before final selection.
7. Final Merit List
The final shortlist is prepared based on marks in the Computer-Based Exam and qualifying stages (PET/PST/Medical). Posts and forces are allocated based on merit and preference.
Post-wise Highlights
SSC GD Constable
Qualification: 10th Pass.
Forces: BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, SSF, NIA, Assam Rifles.
Selection: CBE → PET → PST → Medical → Document Verification.
SSC SI (Delhi Police)
Qualification: Bachelor’s degree; certain posts may require LMV driving licence for males.
